Professor to study nursing home quality

It seems that we can expect a comprehensive look at the quality of life in nursing homes by mid-year.  Assistant Professor of Community Health Zhanlian Feng MA’99 PhD’02  of Brown University has just received a $10,000 grant to conduct investigative research into the quality of life in nursing homes.  He will be reviewing results of surveys from all the certified nursing homes in the country to obtain an inside look of the residents’ lives.   

This research looks to be thorough and helpful for nursing home residents and their families.  As Feng states, there is a considerable amount of writings on the “quality of care” in nursing homes, but not about the quality of life.  With this grant, Feng will endeavor to see how comfortable and content residents are in their homes.  It is encouraging to finally see a study focus on the residents’ concerns and opinions, rather than only addressing the quality and amenities of nursing homes.
