The Tennessee Department of Health has suspended admissions at nursing homes in Palmyra and McKenzie for violations that include failures to protect residents.
Eighteen deficiencies — four of which were deemed as immediate jeopardy — were discovered during a complaint investigation of Palmyra Health Care Center conducted March 31 through April 2. During that time, officials found violations of protection from abuse, administration, nursing services, resident assessment and social services standards, according to a media release from the Tennessee Department of Health.
At Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie, a resident with a history of running away was able to leave the facility and steal a truck, which led to a hit and run accident and an eventual three-county chase with police.
Both nursing homes may be in danger of losing their Medicare and Medicaid contracts if they are unable to improve their quality of care for their residents.
